Chiaroscuro CD's > Mike Jones
|

|
Released in 1993, this solo effort by Mike Jones is impressive. Just 31 at the time of this recording,
Jones has a rare affinity for the American Popular Song, and was smart enough to use the likes of
Dave McKenna and others of that generation as role models. You might sense that he pushes a
little here and there, but the pace just adds to the excitement and makes you want more
(although your ears may not be able to keep up). A nice addition to the Chiaroscuro gallery of
piano players, which includes Earl Hines, Mary Lou Williams, Teddy Wilson, Johnny Costa, Junior
Mance, Bill Charlap, Jay McShann, Ralph Sutton and Mel Powell.
