Chiaroscuro CD's > Joe Venuti and Dave McKenna
Pianist Dave McKenna and violinist Joe Venuti had a certain musical rapport, and probably liked each other, based on the results of
this recording. Venuti plays here with a freedom that sounds contemporary -- that may surprise younger listeners, because Venuti
has been dead nearly 20 years.
McKenna is a two-handed piano player (he actually uses his left hand to play intricate bass lines and supporting chords) and an
inspiration to younger players, such as Boston pianist Mike Jones, who learned a trick or two from McKenna.
